So Christmas has come and gone! Hopefully we have all had a lot of fun and spent some quality time with our families and friends. Winter is now in full swing and at this time of year it is quite widely known that people can suffer from anxiety and depression. This is something I am very much aware of because anxiety is something that I identified as one of the main causes of me biting nails.
Something called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) exists and it can make a lot of people somewhat jaded and like the name suggests, a little bit sad. If you are someone who bites their nails then, like me you could be someone who suffers from anxiety and maybe you are feeling a bit down particularly at this time of year. If that is the case then you could be suffering from a form of SAD. You can read more about it at PubMed Health
Now with that out of the way I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

Thoughtful gifts to help someone stop biting nails
Christmas is coming and I thought what better way to join in the spirit than by providing you with a list of things to help you stop biting nails this Christmas. Things that I consider to be great Christmas presents for the nail biter in your life! I know that sounds very light hearted of me, especially when for many people, nail biting is a curse, but before I dive into my list I’d like to put across a few thoughts about how nail biting can affect people other than the nail biter themselves.
It’s time to spare a thought for the people who also have to suffer as a result of your nail biting. Husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends, parents, other family members, friends. All these people can be indirectly affected by our nail biting habit. I know that when I have been particularly anxious or stressed and ended up frantically biting my nails, my loved ones feel both annoyed and irritated, not to mention somewhat embarrassed by what I am doing. It looks unpleasant I know that, and especially if you bite your nails in public, I can fully understand why the people around me start to feel uncomfortable.

Nail biting poses some health risks that you may not have thought about.
I’ve always hated my nail biting habit because of how it makes me feel and how it makes me look. As I mentioned in my last article, I’ve always been extremely self conscious about the fact that I was a nail biter and what other people would think of me because of it. I’m sure there are many people who dislike their habit for the same reasons, but I wonder if those people are aware of the actual health risks that are associated with nail biting – I know I wasn’t!
So in this article I thought I would outline some of the real health risks that nail biters can face, based on my recent research.
